Things you can do, some can't be done.

I'm finally getting over a 2 day flu. No runny nose or sniffles. My throat is scratchy and I did have a slight headache. The chills at night is when you know you're genuinely sick. So it's been what... a year since my last post, but that's what happens when you have all these social media tools at your disposal: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, ad nauseum.

As you grow older, your priorities change. I've been cooking a lot lately and have been absolutely fascinated with the science behind cooking. So far I've cooked something each night for the last 3 months. I refuse to go out to eat because I swear I can make something tasty. Have I had any dismal failures... not yet. I've had close calls but not anything worthy of being called a failure. I guess I've been lucky... There's this saying in cooking that if you can cook something right the first time you're probably lucky. Some worthy mistakes:

-Puff pastry must be cold, if the butter melts, it's over.
-Dock your pie crust if you blind bake and use pie weights. (I use beans since I'm ghetto like that)
-Temper your food so it cooks evenly
-Cold butter is a must when you make pastry dough. When that butter melts you create those flaky layers.

Ok enough blabbing ... i'm Audi 5000 G.

Back from Jazzfest

Dude. Jazzfest was fun and the fact that my birthday fell upon Jazzfest weekend made it all the more memorable. After stumbling around in a drunken stupor around the french quarter, we headed for our favorite haunt, the 3 legged dog. Of course, being the birthday boy, I was given a shot of something that looked like it was regurgitated by a wild dog. The name: Chartreuse. Chartreuse is pure... nasty...incarnate EVIL. I was given a shot of this concoction for my birhtday and almost tossed my chili fries and hot wings all over the damn place. I hate you guys for making me drink that shee-it. Read more about it here.

A Vue to a Kill

Visual understanding environment. A new way to take complex concepts or ideas and organize them. The end result is possibly new ideas or a better understanding of the relationship between concepts. Pretty impressive stuff. Located here.

Lady Sovereign - Random

God, for some stupid reason the remix of this song is stuck in my head. The track production reminds me of something I heard when I saw Del the Funkee Homosapien perform @ a venue in San Jose about 7 or 8 years ago. I think Cut Chemist was the DJ at that time. I've been using Serato to isolate the end and scratch over it. It has it all: pounding bass, a ticky-ticky synth pattern, the sound of a horn @ either a soccer game or a club, and some eerie church music. Yeah it's funky.

Ribbit vs. Google Voice

Just got my Ribbit Beta account. Looks purty so far. It's amusing how Ribbit is approaching it's website in an almost "Google-like" fashion considering that Google voice is the competition. I actually found this tidbit on Lifehacker so we'll see how it turns out. So far, I got free business cards from Google voice which is the only thing really making me prefer Google Voice @ this time :) LOL. Anyways, more to come...

Wow. It's my yearly post. Just plain sad.

That's the problem with these social sites and blogs. There are too damn many of them. How can you manage twitter, facebook, myspace, LinkedIn, Flickr, and stil have a life full of special goodness. Right now, I would rather be reading or maybe studying up on some things related to work. Or maybe I would rather be on my turntables trying to concoct the perfect beat juggle. Or maybe I would rather be geeking away at setting up a HTPC using a NVIDIA ION chipset (very cool btw). Or maybe I would rather be making tamales with my friends (muy dificil!). Or maybe I would rather be mucking around with my Flip Video attempting to invoke my inner auteur. Oh, the choices are limitless and to think that we have to spend at least a 1/12th or an 1/8th of our day managing these stupid online interaction thingamajigees is insanity. I think we're at the point of watching all these online social interaction sites implode on themselves leaving us at a black screen with a DOS prompt. C:>_ Much, much easier.
